New year, back to emails, gym classes and grocery budgeting. But while you’ve packed away the beach umbrella, the sun hasn’t exactly packed up and gone home. January is still peak UV season in Australia - even if your annual leave has officially expired.

Your skin still needs you. Even when you’re not at the beach.

  1. The Holiday Might Be Over - But the UV Still Isn’t

UV levels in January are still high across most of Australia - even when you’re just walking to the train, sitting near a sunny window or grabbing an iced latte. Sunscreen isn’t a “beach day” thing. It’s an everyday habit-your-skin-future-self-will-appreciate thing.

  1. Skin Checks. Quick, Non-Scary, Life-Saving

Melanoma is the most common cancer in young Australians. That’s the bad news.
The good news? Most skin cancers can be treated easily if they’re found early.

A skin check takes about 10–15 minutes. A doctor or skin specialist will scan your skin from head to toe, flag anything unusual and let you know if a biopsy is needed. Book one in, set an annual reminder and bring someone to make it less awkward if you want.

  1. SPF Is a Daily Habit. Not a Holiday Accessory

If sunscreen disappeared from your routine the moment your out-of-office switched off… this is your sign.

  • Makeup with SPF? Cute. But not enough - most people don’t apply enough to get proper protection.
  • The golden skincare order: Cleanser → Moisturiser → SPF → Makeup.
  • Reapply if you’re out in the sun, driving, or by a window all day.

Sunscreen is the cheapest anti-ageing and anti-skin-cancer product out there. Sorry, retinol.

  1. Post-Holiday Skin Rehab & Everyday Protection

Your skin might be feeling the after-effects of sun, saltwater, sweat and late nights. Here’s the gentle reset:

  • Hydrate like you mean it – Water, electrolytes, watermelon, cucumber. (Iced coffee doesn’t count – we’re bummed about that too)
  • Moisturise – Fragrance-free, barrier-repair creams are your mates.
  • Aloe or after-sun gel if you caught a bit too much sun.
  • Protect beyond sunscreen – Wide-brim hat, sunnies, long sleeves and shade matter just as much when you’re hanging washing or going for a walk.
  1. Prevention First. But If Things Get Serious… That’s Where We Come In

We’ll be straight with you - see-u doesn’t cover your sunscreen, facials or yearly skin checks. Prevention is your job.

But if something is found - skin cancer, surgery or hospital treatment - that’s when health cover matters. That’s when we’re here.

You might never need us (and honestly, we hope you won’t). But if you ever do? You’ve got a safety net. One that might help you get treated sooner, choose your specialist and stress less about the cost.

The takeaway

Summer might be winding down. SPF shouldn’t.
Book the skin check. Wear the sunscreen. Take care of the skin you're in so future-you never has to think, “I wish I’d done something sooner.”

And if something serious ever does happen? We’re here.
